RCR hosts a Cuban Dance Party every 1st Saturday of the month at Lake Merritt Dance in Oakland. In February we’re throwing a LOVE FEST, celebrating all kinds of love — wear something red and/or pink.

At 5:00pm, Ryan’s listening class will be devoted to different sections of the music, and understanding how to interpret them as dancers — how to hear a mambo section, a bomba section, a guaguancó reference, and how to interpret these as musical dancers. Then at 6:15pm Or will offer a Rueda Mixta class, where alternating couples dance towards the center (pa dentro) and towards the outside (pa fuera). Finally at 7:30pm we offer a 1-on-1 social dancing Salsa-Casino class (two separate levels taught in different rooms simultaneously.

At all of our monthly parties we celebrate the birthdays of everyone born in that month. Contact us in advance if your birthday is in February and we’ll put you on the guest list for the party (workshops not included, see below).

LMD is a PERFECT venue for dancing, featuring a smooth vintage hardwood dance floor with ample space to dance. Here’s the full schedule for the night:

We offer all of our classes and events on a sliding scale to make them accessible to as many people as possible (we are professional artists so if you are able to pay the regular price it is much appreciated). When you check out, you can enter either 25OFF or 50OFF as codes to receive 25% or 50% discounts.

There is absolutely no food or drink in the ballroom, including water — be sure to keep all food and drink (including water) in Hall 3, the Lounge, or the lobby.

We are excited to be hosting Roberto Borrell for a special workshop, an introduction to Afro-Cuban Folkloric Dance, with special emphasis on dances for the oricha Ochún that RCR will be dancing for in the San Francisco Carnaval Parade this year. The workshop is open to all dancers.

Born and raised in Cuba, Roberto Borrell began his career in dance with the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional in Havana at the age of 18. With more than 55 years of teaching experience and a lifetime of knowledge of about both Afro-Cuban and Cuban Popular music, Roberto is a master percussionist, dancer, and teacher, and an invaluable resource to dancers and musicians in the Bay Area. On Sunday, February 2nd, RCR’s regular Level 1 and Level 2 classes will still be happening at MNC at 1:30pm and 2:30pm.

We are excited to announce that for the rest of 2024, every 2nd Friday of the month, after our regular weekly classes on Fridays, Guajirón will be providing LIVE CUBAN MUSIC at our weekly dance party. Guajirón is an SF-based group that plays Cuban dance music, directed by longtime Bay Area dancer and RCR student Michael Terkowski.

Before the live music we will offer our regular Friday night classes. Here's the complete schedule:
