Rueda Flash Mob at Carnaval SF - Performance Workshop

Rueda Flash Mob at Carnaval SF - Performance Workshop

MNC (map)

We are excited to be organizing a Rueda Flash Mob to be performed at San Francisco’s Carnaval Festival on Sunday, May 24th. There will be two ways to participate:

  1. Dancers currently taking Level 4 in RCR’s classes can attend this three-week long performance workshop to perfect and add style to all calls from Levels 1, 2, & 3 from our curriculum, organized into a choreography

  2. Dancers currently taking Levels 2 and up can participate without attending the performance workshop, provided they know all the calls from Level 1 of our curriculum. These dancers will join the performance for the second song, after the choreography (learned by the dancers in the first group above).

In the workshop you will apply and develop your knowledge of partnering technique, turn patterns, rhythm, and body-movement, taking your salsa skills to the performance level.

We will meet 3 Sundays: May 3rd, 10th, and 17th, from 3:00 to 5:00pm. Each session is offered on a sliding scale ($20 to $40 for each two-hour session).

Participation in the performance workshop will require individual and/or small group review outside of the weekly meeting times — we expect that the material taught one week will have been practiced and internalized to the best of your ability so that we can continue with new material the next week.

We will take videos after each session — please wear a black shirt (leaders) or red shirt (followers) so that we can look unified for the videos after each session. Bring both colors if you are able to lead and follow.

Participation in the workshop does NOT guarantee a spot in the performance. In the final sessions of the workshop if we assess that you have not learned the choreography in the correct sequence, with the correct timing, and with the correct style you will not be able to participate in the performance. We will also do our best to find an even number of leaders and followers but if there is an imbalance some dancers may not be able to participate in the performance — in this case we will include the dancers who have best mastered the choreography.

If you have questions about your level or other aspects of the workshop please contact us.

These workshops, and all RCR classes, are offered on a sliding scale. When you check out, you can enter either 25OFF or 50OFF as codes to receive 25% or 50% discounts.

Il Pirata (map)

RCR isn’t dancing in the SF Carnaval Parade this year but we are organizing a Rueda Flash Mob to be performed at the Festival (please join us — more info here).

RCR’s Rueda Flash Mob will be performed at 12:45pm at the Carnaval San Francisco Festival — the Comparsa Stage at 21st and Harrison Streets. All dancers who know all Level 1 calls from RCR’s Curriculum are welcome (and encouraged) to participate for the second song.

After the parade and festival on Sunday, we are hosting an After-Carnaval Salsa Party at Il Pirata (2007 16th Street near Potrero) from 6:00 to 10:00pm. DJ Ritmo spins Salsa & Música Cubana: $10 cover — $5 for RCR Flash Mob participants.

Cerebrando La Rueda - Oakland (Level 5)

Rueda con Ritmo's Or Gadish is teaching a recurring 2-hour L5 advanced workshop called Cerebrando La Rueda, to develop a group of advanced dancers that can dance in various Rueda structures and concepts, such as Rueda Llanta, Mixta, Torno, and Eco/Cruzada.

In order to allow us to move swiftly through these topics, these workshops are for those that have completed and are comfortable with the RCR L4 curriculum or equivalent. This is for you if:
- You have good and confident dance technique
- You are experienced in leading or following (no switching required)
- You are a fast learner and need few repetitions when learning new moves and patterns
- You can keep the flow of a constantly moving Rueda, even without basic steps in between.
- You can perform all the moves in the RCR L1-L3 curriculum without a partner (e.g. with a ghost) and without seeing others (e.g. in Rueda Pafuera). This will be explicitly tested when joining for the first time.

If you are not yet at the right level, fret not! This is not your only opportunity to learn these topics. Or will continue to teach them at separate workshops designed for a broader audience where we can take more time with each new idea.

We look forward to building out a group of advanced dancers that can take on these interesting, but complex topics!
