RCR hosts a Cuban Dance Party every 1st Saturday of the month at the LMDC in Oakland. April’s Party coincides with International Rueda de Casino Flash Mob Day (see separate event to participate in the Flash Mob).

At 5pm, Ryan’s listening class will be devoted to understanding the overall structure and specific parts of a timba (aka Cuban Salsa) song, and how we can use this knowledge of the structure of the music to inspire our dance. Then at 6:15pm Or will offer a Rueda Llanta class — Typically, Rueda de Casino is danced as one large circle of couples facing inwards. In Rueda Llanta, we break from this default and dance in two concentric circles — an outside circle facing in (pa’dentro) and an inside circle facing out (pa’fuera) — that also interact with each other within sets of two-couple mini-ruedas. At all of our monthly parties we celebrate the birthdays of everyone born in that month. Contact us in advance if your birthday is in April and we’ll put you on the guest list for the party (workshops not included, see below).

The Lake Merritt Dance Center is a PERFECT venue for dancing, featuring a smooth vintage hardwood dance floor with ample space to dance. Here’s the full schedule for the night:
